Job Summary:
 
Working under the general supervision of the Accounts Payable Supervisor or Manager, relying on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals, the Senior Accounts Payable Specialist serves as a first level interface between the corporate AP team and the AP Supervisor in handling all aspects of the Accounts Payable processing. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and reconciliation to vendor statements and general ledger. Mentors and trains AP team members in the AP processes.
 
 Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Executes the automated check process and oversees the preparation of check remittances.
  • Performs ACH transfers in and out of E1, sends wire list to Accounting Director and processes stop payments with the GL team.
  • Follows up with signers to obtain the appropriate approvals.
  • Ensures appropriate month end cut-off of AP transactions.
  • Manages the communication and processing of sales tax credits owed to the company.
  • Reviews and ensures correct general ledger account coding of invoices and credit memos.
  • Routes invoices for approval manually and electronically.
  • Records payments with the accounting software.
  • Assists with Concur Expense Report processing.
  • Assists with oversight of weekly small and large supplier early pay discounts.
  • Reconciles vendor statements and responds to vendor inquiries.
  • Researches and resolves issues related to AP, purchase orders and vendor payments.
  • Assists with training of new AP staff and mentoring existing staff as needed.
  • Participates in team building events and monthly meetings.
  • Performs all other du es or special projects as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • 3 -5 years of Accounts Payable experience
  • Associate degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience; Major -Finance, Accounting or Business Management
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills with ability to create complex spreadsheets using formulas, including v-lookup, and pivot tables.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Adaptable with ability to switch tasks based on shifting priorities
  • Articulate with ability to express oneself clearly and professionally in written and oral communication
  • Supportive mentor with ability to guide and develop team members

Additional preferred competencies or preferred qualifications:
  • Cash management experience a plus.
  • AP Certification preferred.
