Our client, a well-established professional organization with a global footprint, has engaged ttg Talent Solutions to identify their next Head of Financial Reporting and Accounting.  This company has been in operations for more than 80 years, and in our opinion, it is one of the best workplaces in South Florida.
The Head of Financial Reporting and Accounting will have oversight over the financial reporting process and will serve as both as partner and as right hand to the CFO. This person will ensure the timely and accurate financial reporting cadence for the organization.  It will also be responsible for actual versus plan variance analysis and will be a partner in the strategic direction setting for the organization.  It will also be responsible for compliance, and a sound-reporting environment conducive to achieving “Audit-Ready” financial on an ongoing-basis.
He/she will focus on continuous improvement by benchmarking against peers and best practices and will be responsible for technical accounting research and general research as well as implementing applicable findings.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to be a solid business partner to all functioning directors of the organization, and will be involved in contract negotiation and review, risk management, and will assist with our pricing review and approval process.
Duties and responsibilities/essential function
  • Lead the financial reporting and forecasting functions for the organization.
  • Leads technical accounting research and documentation of accounting positions in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory bodies
  • Accounting and Financial policies, practices and procedures.
  • Owns month end closing.
  • Directs the preparation of budgets and forecasts, reviews and refines forecasting modeling and tools
  • Compiles and distributes meeting materials for the Finance & Business Development, Audit and Investment committees and draft the minutes of the meetings
  • Compiles exhibits for Board Meetings and other meetings as needed
  • Together with the Director of Financial Reporting, leads the audit process and preparation of tax returns by the external auditors to a successful and expedient conclusion
  • Works closely with the Director of Financial Analysis and Systems to review financial trends and proactively identify ways to meet if not exceed targets as well as to act on opportunities
  • Assists with evaluation of ROI’s and margins for specific programs, products and events
  • Assists with the development of short-term and long-range goals, objectives and priorities (i.e. unit business plan) in alignment with the organization strategic plan
  • Works closely with the Director of Financial Analysis and Systems to accomplish goals as they relate to system enhancement
  • Reviews all cash and investment accounts and makes recommendations to maximize our cash flow position (transfer excess cash)
  • As requested, participates in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions including integration
  • Works closely with the internal auditor to implement and maintain control opportunities identified
  • Fosters a collaborative process (both internal and external)
  • Utilizes metrics to measure team effectiveness as well as aid other units in developing metrics to gauge results
  • Reviews contracts and policies to ensure they are adequate, acts as master keeper of contracts (i.e. repository function)
  • Recruits, trains and develops direct reports as well as assists with Finance Training (internal staff and external volunteers)
  • Orchestrates Pricing Committee Meetings
  • Assists with insurance negotiations (all policies) and negotiations in general mainly gathering data and communicating with broker and consultant
  • Assists with special projects and ad-hoc requests, as necessary

Qualifications/competencies
  • Fifteen (15) years of accounting and financial reporting experience including ten (10) years in a management role
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and master’s degree in Accounting or MBA
  • Proven record of visionary leadership, highly innovative and creative
  • Technology Savvy
  • Superb analytical and problem-solving skills couple with good decision-making skills
  • Business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit to help identify areas of growth in the business
  • Ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” (roll-up-sleeves) work ethic
  • Impeccable integrity
  • Strong organization, prioritization, project management and consulting skill set

  • US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles including disclosure practices
