Purpose Statement:
This position is responsible for oversight of Newbuild projects in the cruise markets ensuring vessels are:
  • Delivered on time,
  • Completed with Superb Quality, and
  • Built within budgetary constrains
This position manages a good relationship with key vendors and customers both external and internal.
General Responsibilities:
  • Primary point of contact for the Organization and Sponsors related to Hotel Newbuild & Refurbishment projects.
  • Supports VP, Hotel Newbuild & Refurbishment in strategic and business planning efforts in conjunction with Corporate leadership through the facilitation and development of a project portfolio that meets the needs of a growing Brand, and the corporations’ revenue, business and quality objectives.
  • Strategic Planning support
  • Leads Newbuilding organization design and business planning efforts in conjunction with Company/Contractor leadership.
  • Oversight to the portfolio of projects, providing vital project leadership required to communicate, integrate and execute on time, quality and budget.
  • Leads, implements, and executes the recommended course of action to the project organizations in outlining goals, objectives, milestones, responsibilities, scope and tracking routines.
  • Proactively interfaces with constituent representatives for the purpose of examining project status, monitoring progress, resolving issues and ensuring mitigation to any risks.
  • Overall organization, planning and facilitation for Product Development and Operational start up processes including hotel owner’s supplies, procedures and crew manning.
  • Responsible for the creation, execution and performance of internal project management procedures, guidelines, meetings, metrics & templates.
  • Provides critical data support including research and analysis for project evaluation and monitoring, maintaining compliance with corporate/public regulations, budget tracking and financial forecasting. • Engineer processes and systems that improve quality, productivity, work to eliminate waste of time, money, materials, energy & other commodities.
  • Ensure Company input from Sponsors for specification development, design/shop drawing reviews, mockups, building inspections, tests, trials as required.
  • Problem solve any project issues ensuring mitigation to any risks with external architects, consultants, contractors, Site Team, Yard(s) and Company resources as required.
  • Works with Marketing and Public Relations teams to ensure all vessel data, designs, renderings, or other information is factually correct.
  • Ensures efficient utilization of staff and non-labor resources with all projects.
  • Participates in succession planning, training, evaluation and development for project team personnel as required.
  • Represents Company by attending on-site design workshops and special events with Media, Trade, external architects, consultants, Site Team, Yard(s) and sub-contractors as needed.

Financial Responsibilities:
  • Oversees creation and management of project budgets with focus on external consulting and owner’s supply Hotel FF&E.
  • Liaises with Company leaders and financial support to ensure accurate monthly and quarterly forecasts, reporting and payments.
  • Monitors the external environment and identifies opportunities (both operational and pricing) to fulfill the department’s and the company’s cost control strategies.
Daily Responsibilities:
  • Work with III Party Contractor & Company Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, IT, HR, Site Team, Shipyard(s), suppliers and external contractors, consultants, architectural & interior design firms on day-to-day activities as described under the general and financial responsibilities.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ construction experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ managing large scale projects, cruise ship newbuild and/or refurbishment project experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalency from a recognized institution of higher education is required in Engineering, Business, Project Management or related field. Master’s Degree is a plus. • Prior leadership or supervisory skills are a must.
  • Experience within travel and hospitality a plus.
  • Solid written, verbal and interpersonal skills a must. Clear and precise communication at all levels of the organization essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to quickly synthesize data, identify implications and implement change.
  • Ability to travel internationally or domestically 25-35% of the time.
  • Language requirements: ability to speak, read, write in English language; proficiency in German language a plus.
Ability to coach, mentor and lead teams across a diverse set of objectives and initiatives. Demonstrates the ability to encourage and coach project team members from their own experience to avoid errors or mistakes in product quality. Actively implements lessons learned into work practices.
Team Communication:
Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a matrixed working environment dealing simultaneously with several project teams across the globe. Upbeat, naturally positive outlook and demeanor.
