The Broadcast Assistant Director (AD) is the director's right hand person, taking responsibility for a number of important practicalities so that the director is free to concentrate on the creative process. During pre-production, ADs break down the rundown, working with the Director and Producer on the timing of each element and segment of the show. The Ad also is very involved with helping the Director with the pre-call of shots when the Director feels it is warranted. AD will work with graphics, music, guests and show particulars or any other special request needed on the show. The AD must be technically inclined to run various types of equipment such as the iNEWS newsroom computer system (NRCS), Miranda Router, Avid airspeed, Cal Rec audio, Robotic camera systems and Ross overdrive automation. The AD is the key link between the Director, Producers and Production team validating that all communication and understanding is crystal clear about the show.
  • Broadcast Assistant Director must be authoritative team leaders and motivators, while also being approachable team players. They need exceptional organizational and time management skills. The ability to plan ahead, trouble shoot and pay close attention to detail is vital in this role. Being an excellent communicator, with tact and diplomacy skills, is also essential as they must routinely deal with problems.
  • Code in Ross Overdrive automation
  • Back time video clips and packages
  • Use iNEWS (Newsroom Computer System) to edit the rundown
  • Oversee and facilitate production elements, including graphics, music, and all other related presentation elements at the director’s request
  • Call for manual triggering of graphic elements
  • Knowledge of Robotic Camera Systems
  • Knowledge of equipment utilized in production, TV studio and control room
  • Must constantly prioritize assignments and have the ability to multitask is crucial.
  • Comfort using highly technical and automated systems
  • Works effectively as a team in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) preferred
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
  • Work under highly pressurized and stressful conditions, a flexible and positive approach is highly valued.
  • This position supports 24x7 operations, thus availability after hours, and in cases extended shifts, is a must
