Background:
Our client, a very prestigious Corporate, and Government Law & Lobbying Legal firm has entrusted us to find their next
Accounting Manager to provide guidance to the finance team and provide support to the Finance Director.  We are looking for a solid Finance and Accounting Professional with the necessary business acumen and gravitas to manage the daily operations of this national firm.  Discretion and ability to manage confidential information are a most on this role.
 
This position is responsible for supervising the finance and accounting teams including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking, Trust, Client Relations, Collections, Billing, and other.
The Accounting Manager will also assist the Director of Finance with financial plans and policies, accounting practices, maintenance of fiscal records, the preparation of financial reports, and the general management of the Accounting
department and staff.
 
Responsibilities
  • Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversees the operations of the accounting department and staff to ensure achievement of the department's goals and objectives
  • Provide support and guidance to the accounting staff on day-to-day tasks as needed
  • Provides day-to-day support to Firm's Director of Finance in Accounting department management
  • Assists the Director of Finance with the implementation of new technology or standard operating procedures for the department
  • Ensures that all incoming emails/correspondences to the Accounting department are addressed promptly
  • Oversees the monitoring of Unapplied and Trust Balances as well as Unbilled WIP
  • Oversees the monthly bank reconciliations process for Operating and Trust accounts
  • Ensures that Billing and Collections statements are timely prepared
  • Ensure all expense reports are processed and paid on time
  • Communicates with bank officials regarding ACH payments, wire transfers notifications, bank account status, etc
  • Assists in training or coordination of training for new hires to the Accounting department
  • Provides management with regular status reports regarding daily balances and transactions
  • Generate payroll export file and post administrative payroll and firm-wide expense allocations by office to the accounting system
  • Benefits reconciliation including the preparation and reconciliation of additional compensation and provide the report to Human Resources for importing into the payroll system
  • Quarterly payroll tax filing and balance and produce W2 file for printing and electronic file for SSA
  • Run UltiPro reports and transfers for 940 returns annually
  • Review and maintain the liability GL account
  • Maintains an orderly accounting electronic imaging system (Expert Image)
  • Maintains a system of controls over accounting transactions
REQUIREMENTS
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting combined with five or more years of related experience or training in accounting procedures, specifically in a Law Firm setting.
  • Must have the ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have experience interpreting financial statements, recording journal entries, performing higher-level calculations for budgets, statistical analysis, and probability statements.
  • The Accounting Manager must use the utmost discretion in all aspects of the job.
  • Must have experience in Aderant Expert or similar legal software. Microsoft Office experience with proficiency in Excel.
